Omega NZ Insurance
Rental vehicle and third party insurance is included in our rates and is subject to a deductible (excess) of $NZ 2000.00
Comprehensive Insurance Schedule
Our rates include comprehensive insurance for the vehicle.
This covers damage to both the rental car and third party vehicles or property up to a value of NZ $1,000,000.
This insurance carries an excess (deductible ) of NZ $2000.00 which means if an accident occurs while the car is on hire you are liable for $2000.00 or the cost of repair, whichever is the lesser amount. The excess applies to damage to the vehicle or damage caused by the vehicle.
An optional Collision Damage Waiver is available (see above) which reduces the excess to nil.
Where an accident involves two vehicles the NZ $2000.00 excess may be refunded if we are able to establish that liability rests with the third party. This is done via our insurance company who take the case to a disputes hearing.
If liability can not be established with the third party then the hirer is responsible for the excess.
The indemnities referred to above shall not apply where the damage, injury, or loss arises when -
(a) The driver of the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol or any drug that affects his or her ability to drive the vehicle.
(b) The vehicle is in an unsafe or unroadworthy condition that arose during the course of the hire and that caused or contributed to the damage or loss, and the Hirer or driver was aware or ought to have been aware of the unsafe or unroadworthy condition of the vehicle.
(c) The vehicle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest.
(d) The vehicle is driven by any person not named in the rental agreement.
(e) The vehicle is being driven by any person who at the time when he or she drives the vehicle is disqualified from holding or has never held a drivers licence appropriate for the vehicle.
(f) The vehicle is willfully or recklessly damaged by the hirer or any other person named in the agreement or driving the vehicle under the authority of the hirer, or is lost as a result of willful or reckless behaviour of the hirer or any such person.
(g) The vehicle is operated outside the term of the hire or any agreed extension of that term.
It is agreed between the owner and the hirer that section 11 of the insurance law reform act 1977 shall apply to the above exclusions as if this clause constituted a contract of insurance. The general effect of this provision is that an exclusion will not apply if the hirer proves on the balance of probability that the damage or loss was not caused or contributed to by the matters to which the exclusion refers.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) (This insurance is not available to drivers under 21 years)
The hirer may choose to waive the insurance deductible by payment of an optional Collision Damage Waiver on all vehicles. Rates for these policies are quoted on the website through which you have booked. An imprint of your credit card number is still required with this option as security.
Drivers under 21 years old the excess of $2,000 can not be reduced, and are subject to excess of $2,500.
